Our Civil Engineering Students’ Project Receives the Best Earthquake Performance Special Award

The team made up of our Civil Engineering students won the Best Earthquake Performance Special Award during the “Earthquake Resistant Building Design” competition organized by the Turkish Natural Catastrophe Insurance Pool (DASK) from May 6 through 8.

The OzU team made up of our Civil Engineering students Oğuzcan Çatlıoğlu, Ergun Göksu, Mehmet Mert Genç, Aykut Kekliktepe ve Hüseyin Berkay Yıldırım and led by Dr. Taner Yılmaz from the Faculty of Engineering won the “ Best Earthquake Performance Special Award” during the fourth Earthquake Resistant Building Design” competition organized by the Turkish Natural Catastrophe Insurance Pool (DASK). This year, 76 teams from 51 universities competed in the “Earthquake Resistant Building Design” competition. Our team also placed third in the Best Communication Skills and Presentation, and fourth in the Poster categories.

The projects were tested on the shaking table simulating an earthquake during the finals in the İstanbul Ottoman Archives Building in Kağıthane, on May 7. In addition to earthquake resistance, affordability and aesthetics were also among the evaluation criteria for the earthquake resistant building designs. Our students received their awards during the awards ceremony which took place on May 8, following the grand finals.
