We Returned from ACM Multimedia Systems (MMSys) 2021 Conference with Five Awards

We were honored with five awards during the ACM MMSys 2021 Conference where international papers competed and Özyeğin University was represented by its Graduate School of Engineering and Science alumni and students under the mentorship of Associate Prof. Dr. Ali C. Beğen from the Faculty of Engineering. The team which included Tuğçe Erkılıç Civelek, our PhD student in Computer Science at the Graduate School of Engineering and Science, and Deniz Uğur, our fresh Computer Science graduate, won the "YouTube Grand Challenge on Detecting Cheapfakes", which was organized jointly by Youtube and Google AI, and received the grand prize. 

We also won first prize and second prize with two papers in "DASH-IF Excellence in DASH Awards", which are presented annually by DASH Industry Forum in recognition of the contributions made to the international MPEG DASH standard. 

In addition to their first-prize winning paper, Ömer F. Aladağ, our student in Thesis MSc in Computer Science at the Graduate School of Engineering and Science, Deniz Uğur, our fresh graduate in B.Sc. in Computer Science, and Mehmet N. Akçay , our PhD student in Computer Science at the Graduate School of Engineering and Science, were also conferred second prize in recognition of another paper they co-authored with other authors participating from the National University of Singapore. Our students also received the "Best Demo and Industry Paper Award" in recognition of the demo they prepared in conjunction with their paper. 

Meanwhile, in the "DASH-IF dash.js Contributor Awards" presented by the DASH Industry Forum, Mehmet N. Akçay, our PhD student in Computer Science at the Graduate School of Engineering and Science, was presented third prize jointly with participants from other countries.
