Özyeğin University joins the PRECISE Project Investigating the Corrosion of Materials Used in Nuclear Technology with Artificial Intelligence

Associate Professor Özgür Ertunç from the Mechanical Engineering Program and Assistant Professor İsmail Arı from the Computer Science Program at Özyeğin University have joined the PRECISE Project. The project is conducted within the scope of CONNECT-NM (Coordination of the European Research Community on Nuclear Materials for Energy Innovation) and supported by the European Union.

The PRECISE (Physics-informed and data-driven Reliable Estimations for Corrosion in Sustainable Nuclear Environments) project aims to advance the prediction of degradation and corrosion in nuclear materials by shifting from traditional approaches based on experimental correlations to artificial intelligence models based on physics knowledge and using time-series data. Through a dual architecture that considers both data-constrained and data-rich scenarios, the goal is to generate reliable and generalizable predictions for different nuclear material types and operating conditions.

This multi-partner consortium brings together leading universities, research centers, and industry stakeholders from Germany, Spain, Ukraine, China, and Türkiye. The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) serves as the project coordinator, while powerful institutions, including CIEMAT, Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), IPP Centre, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), and Borcelik, also contribute to the project.
